Restore a damaged tooth with a dental crown

Dental crowns

A dental crown covers and protects a tooth that has been damaged, weakened, or heavily restored, bringing it back to full strength and function.

Dental crowns at Beacon Park Dental

A crown is one of the most reliable ways to save a tooth that can no longer support a filling.

We make crowns from tooth-coloured materials matched to the shade of your surrounding teeth, so the result looks natural. We use digital scanning rather than traditional impressions, which most patients find more comfortable and which gives us a more precise fit.

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown (sometimes called a tooth cap) is a custom-made cover that fits over the entire visible surface of a damaged or weakened tooth. It restores the tooth's shape, size, and strength, and once fitted, you care for it just as you would your natural teeth.

Whether a tooth has cracked, broken, or weakened after a root canal, a crown covers and protects it – restoring the tooth’s appearance and its ability to function normally.

A crown is a permanent restoration. With good care it can last fifteen years or more, and we'll monitor its condition at your routine check-ups.

How much does a dental crown cost?

The cost of a dental crown depends on the tooth that we’re treating, and the materials involved. We always provide a clear personalised quote before beginning any treatment, and you can view cost guidelines on our pricing page.

We offer 0% finance to our patients, so they can spread the cost of their restorative treatments over 3, 6, 10, or 12 months.

What is the process of having a crown fitted?

Your consultation

We'll examine the tooth, take digital scans, and confirm whether a crown is the right option. We'll explain the procedure in full and give you a clear price before we book anything in.

Preparing and designing

We reshape the tooth to make room for the crown and send the design to our laboratory where your crown is custom-made. We'll fit a temporary crown to protect the tooth while you wait, which usually takes a couple of weeks.

Fitting your crown

When your crown is ready, you’ll return to the practice to have it fitted and checked. We’ll some adjustments needed to make sure the fit and bite feel right, and talk you through how to care for your crown.

Do I need a dental crown?

We’ll usually recommend a crown when a tooth has become so damaged of weakened that a filling is no longer sufficient. Common reasons for needing a dental crown include:

  • A cracked or broken tooth
  • A tooth with extensive decay
  • A tooth that has had root canal treatment

We’ve been providing restorative dental care in Lichfield since 2008, so we have the experience to ensure your new crown fits exactly, matches the colour of your surrounding teeth, and feels natural for your bite.

We use digital scanning to take a precise record of your tooth and the surrounding teeth, which gives our laboratory everything they need to make a crown that sits and functions exactly as it should.

Don't leave a damaged tooth to get worse

A cracked or weakened tooth won’t improve on its own. The longer you leave it, the more likely it is that you'll need complex treatment. If you've noticed a tooth that feels different when you bite down, or you know you've got one that needs attention, book a consultation and we'll take a look.
