Children's dentist

Our team takes the time to make younger patients feel at ease when they visit the dentist.

Children's dentistry at Beacon Park Dental

We've been looking after families in Lichfield since 2008, and many of the children we see are the sons and daughters (and grandchildren) of patients who have been coming to us for years.

Josh Jackson, our associate dentist, has a particular interest in paediatric care and takes time to make sure younger patients feel comfortable from the moment they arrive. The goal at every child's dental appointment is to make the experience a positive one, so that visiting the dentist feels normal rather than something to worry about.

What does children's dentistry involve?

Children's dental appointments cover much of the same ground as adult check-ups, but at a pace and in a way that's suited to younger patients. At each visit, your child's dentist will examine their teeth and gums, check that their teeth are developing as expected, and offer guidance on brushing technique and a tooth-friendly diet.

If your child needs treatment, we’ll keep things as straightforward as possible. Common treatments for children include fluoride applications, gentle cleaning, and fillings for cavities in adult teeth. We'll always explain what we're doing and why, so your child knows what to expect.

How much does it cost to take my child to the dentist?

The cost of taking your child to the dentist depends on whether they need a dental examination or specific treatments. We keep up-to-date pricing information on our pricing page, and will always provide you with a full quote before we begin your child’s treatment.

If you'd like to manage the cost of your family's dental care across the year, our membership plans cover check-ups for adults and children, and gives you discounts on other treatments.

What to expect at your child’s first dental appointment

Get in touch

Call the clinic or book online to register your child with us. We’ll find a convenient time for you and your child to attend for an appointment.

The appointment

Your child will be seen by one of our dentists, who will carry out a gentle dental examination.

Going forward

After the appointment, we'll advise how often your child should come in and flag any areas to keep an eye on.

Does my child need to go to the dentist?

We recommend bringing your child to the dentist when their first tooth appears, or around their first birthday, whichever comes first. Starting early helps build a routine and means we can spot any issues with tooth development from the start.

From there, most children benefit from a check-up every six months. If your child experiences dental pain, has had an accident involving their teeth, or you notice something that doesn't look right, don't wait for their next check-up - call us and we'll arrange to see them as quickly as possible.

A dental practice your family can rely on

Josh Jackson, our associate dentist, joined the practice in 2022 and has a focus on paediatric dentistry. He's supported by our dental nurses and our hygienists, who are experienced in working with younger patients.

Many families in Lichfield register their children with us because they already trust us with their own care. As a private dental practice, we don't suffer from the same time pressures or waiting lists as an NHS facility, which means we can dedicate more time to your child's oral health, which can be particularly helpful for nervous children.
